The Tommyknockers by Stephen King6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() I loved some of the things that happen in Haven because Bobbi starts to dig up the spaceship. This would have been written when King was drinking a lot and taking drugs and so I felt Gard was clearly based on King himself. Gard is drunken, useless arsehole but somehow likable and pitiable. The characters are all very well-written especially Bobby and Gard. Many of King’s best novels are set somewhere similar. ![]() The novel is set in Haven, a small fiction town in Maine. There are some things about The Tommyknockers that I love. I have mixed feelings about The Tommyknockers which I haven’t read for over ten years. That stumble was the root of the matter all the rest was nothing but history. ![]() Anderson literally stumbled over her destiny in the small town of Haven, Maine on June 21, 1988. It’s either all an accident … or all fate. In the end, you can boil everything down to something similar – or so Roberta Anderson thought much later on. But everything is about to change.įor want of a nail the kingdom was lost – that’s how the catechism goes when you boil it down. It all looks the same, the house, the furniture, Jim’s friend Bobbi, her beagle (though ageing), even the woods out at the back.īut it was in the woods that Bobbi stumbled over the odd, part-buried object and felt a peculiar tingle as she brushed the soft earth away.Įverything is familiar. But everything has changed.Ĭoming back to the little community is like walking into a nightmare for Jim Gardener, poet, drunk, potential suicide. ![]()

Hooks feminist theory6/29/2023 ![]() ![]() While there may not be a consensus on where feminist theory fits as a theory or paradigm, disruption of oppression is a core tenant of feminist work. As hooks (2000) states, “Simply put, feminism is a movement to end sexism, sexist exploitation and oppression. Feminist theory considers the lived experience of any person/people, not just women, with an emphasis on oppression. ![]() The purpose of using a feminist lens is to enable the discovery of how people interact within systems and possibly offer solutions to confront and eradicate oppressive systems and structures. Feminist theory falls under the umbrella of critical theory, which in general have the purpose of destabilizing systems of power and oppression. Feminist theory will be discussed here as a theory with a lower case ‘t’, however this is not meant to imply that it is not a Theory or cannot be used as one, only to acknowledge that for some it may be a sub-genre of Critical Theory, while for others it stands alone. According to Egbert and Sanden (2020), some scholars see critical paradigms as extensions of the interpretivist, but there is also an emphasis on oppression and lived experience grounded in subjectivist epistemology. ![]() The Girl Before by J.P. My name is Lana, but to them and my dad, I’m their Lainie baby even at twenty-two. My whole life I’ve been coddled, protected, bullied, bribed, and all of that is all fine, because I love my brothers, I love my family, but sometimes I wish I were the eldest, so I wouldn’t be underestimated the way I am now.
